The scene’s fathers have passed on a legacy of collective ideas spawned from the individuals’ background, upbringing and history. One of drum&bass’ most influential DJ/producers has been involved since very early, having shaped his own niche within the scene, creating his own sound and continually reinventing himself...Bristol’s favourite son... Mr.Roni Size. Roni’s roots are firmly planted in urban culture with a passion for graffiti and skate culture plus a drive for the sounds of dance music, particularly breakbeat. In 1993 Roni Size founded 'Dope Dragon' and his strongest label, the awesome 'Full Cycle Records', still running strong to this day. Less than a year later Bryan Gee, a close friend of Roni Size, formed 'V Recordings' - often considered the London big brother of Bristol’s Full Cycle, putting Roni on the map. The master was born. 'Full Cycle' began its perpetual... cycle. It was varying personal influences of the Full Cycle camp's members (Suv was dub, Krust was hip-hop, Die was jazz and Roni was ragga/bashment) that made this label so very diverse and original. Dynamite was already an accomplished artist by the time Roni met him in ’93, instantly clicking with his skills and unique ability to motivate and control a crowd; a partnership made. Dynamite became choice front man for the Reprazent crew, soon MCing with all major V Recordings and Full Cycle artists worldwide, as well as many other artist(s) lucky enough to have him accompany. Recently Dynamite turned his sights to the production of his first solo album, 'The World Of Dynamite', starting his own imprint, 'Strong Records', to get it out. This from Greg Packer - quot;Dave jackson is the reason I do what I do today, he is the man responsible for converting me from hip hop to dance music, this took place around the summer of 1990 when he's younger brother asked me if Dave could use my decks to knock up a quick mixtape, that set changed my life. Dave also was the first DJ to put on all night rave events in warehouses back in 1990 and was the resident DJ at perth's first ever underground dance music nightclub ( LIMBOS ) playing early forms of electronic music acid house , detroit techno , uk hardcore u name it he was on it... a true pioneer - he played tunes that were considered the first dnb tracks ever such as 'urban shakedown - some justice' or '4 hero - mr kirks nightmare' or 'ragga twins - spliff head' I guarantee dave was playing these on white label way before they had proper releases ... dave may not be known as a dnb DJ, but over the years he has built up a collection of what he has liked, I remember getting calls from dave over the years about tunes such as Peshay's - Miles From Home/Jammin, Makoto's Golden Girl and Adam F's Circles. Unlike many DJ's dave has always kept an open mind, this is why I choose to bring the man down to liquid sessions this week so he can unleash a DNB influenced 2hr set 'THIS SHOULD NOT BE MISSED'.
